Okay deep breath...

First of all I'm vegan for ethical reasons, with health benefits being a rather wonderful side effect. At no point did I decide that there was something inherently unpleasant about things that were sausage or burger-shaped. In fact it seems an eminently sensible way of getting food into a bap, bun or pitta bread.

... but what about the symbolism of slaughter that these typologies represent I hear you cry?

Well maybe we should be allowed to reclaim the sausage, the savoury slice and the minced up patty from the carnivorous hordes!

You mind if we repost this on the blog? I expect it won't be the last time - wait till I make toad in the hole! ha ha ha.Steve Connorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03417015303849327742noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014283958850230789.post-90319607730867484422011-01-23T14:16:51.778+00:002011-01-23T14:16:51.778+00:00Bit of a debate broke out on Facebook when I poste...Bit of a debate broke out on Facebook when I posted this up. Here's what my mate Davie Hunter had to say:

Davie Hunter: Don't you just hate the meat substituton stuff though? Subs. to bacon, sausages etc? Have your cake and eat it mentality. I think the only difficult area is milk...that seems a necessary candidate for a substitute but most other animal products could surely be erased from the culinary vocabulary of the vegan or vegetarian?

We stayed in a buddhist monastery in Koyasan in Japan for a couple of days and that was a real different track from the western outlook on what a breakfast constitutes.Steve Connorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03417015303849327742noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014283958850230789.post-38776198761034087742011-01-23T14:15:51.987+00:002011-01-23T14:15:51.987+00:00Tempeh is fabulous but there's something about...Tempeh is fabulous but there's something about it that doesn't work for me at breakfast?
